People STILL Buy from People

From my earliest days in sales, I was taught one simple truth: People buy from people.

If two people are selling the same product, the one who is more personable and professional will most likely win the business.

This simple principle guided me as I climbed the corporate ladder, and when I managed sales teams, I passed it on to them. I always emphasised: never over-promise, and when you make a promise, deliver on it—and if possible, exceed expectations.

Throughout my career, across dozens of countries, I found this premise to hold true, no matter the cultural differences. Building trust and rapport, being genuine, and maintaining a professional attitude were universal keys to success.

Even when I shifted out of sales and into logistics and operations, the lesson was still relevant. Positive relationships and a can-do attitude not only got things done but made the process smoother for everyone involved.

When I transitioned into web design, the learning curve was steep. I invested in countless training courses on both design and business, and one message kept surfacing in every setting: People buy from people. It was a familiar phrase that took on new meaning in this digital age. Despite working largely behind a screen, I realised that every design, every piece of advice, and every interaction carries my personal stamp. Whether online or face-to-face, people still seek out trust and human connection.

This principle is timeless, and I believe the world would be a better place if everyone took it to heart.
